After the seemingly endless winter of 2014, Vallentin booked a last-minute flight to San Juan in hopes of collecting his thoughts.
What was written in San Juan became the songs of Hedera: a contemplation of growth and identity, an editorial on the non-romantic side of love, and a handful of reminders for the future, when things once again become unclear.
Upon his return to Canada, Vallentin recorded voice and guitar then meticulously re-arranged each song through electronic production, adding elements of hip-hop, jazz, dance, and chamber music to the hazy living-room demos.
The result is a near 40-minute torrent of texture and colour, both balanced and chaotic, simultaneously empty and overflowing. Every sound takes on a shape, stock-still and translucent, illuminating Vallentin's path between confusion and clarity.
