RIYL: Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Pet Shop Boys, Beach House
Toddler's brand of Lo-fi Bedroom Pop was born with the release of "Mommies Little Boy," in November 2015. The Montreal native recorded his debut entirely with a Casiotone 202, (the world's second ever Casio keyboard; 1981). Percussion was then added by thumping a bucket, smacking a metal tray and shaking a jar of spice. The vocals explore the duality between the high and the low with lyrics that are transparent and sincere.
Toddler then took a break to travel, South America for the winter and then to Europe for the Spring. It was in May of 2016 that "Girls on My Mind," was recorded. The sophomore release follows the same aesthetic and principles as "Mommies Little Boy," with the addition of a Yamaha PortaSound PS-3 (1980), mini portable keyboard, and a pawnshop purchased electric guitar.
Toddler toured throughout Quebec and Ontario in June then went island hopping throughout the Gulf-Islands of Coastal British Columbia in July. Toddler will release "Girls on My Mind," this fall and record an EP (in French) for Christmas 2016.
